Andrew’s Mum and Dad are both volunteers for the CLIC Sargent House in Prestwick and in July 2003 when Andrew was visiting the CLIC Sargent House with his Mum and Dad he met a young boy and played with him on the Playstation.
Later on Andrew found out that the boy was suffering from leukaemia.
Andrew was upset but so impressed with the boy’s bravery that he decided to do something to help.

His singing coach said Andrew should be practicing his performing, so during the summer of 2003 Andrew, aged 12, sang at local Nursing Homes accompanied by his Dad on guitar.
When the Nursing Homes gave him a donation, Andrew said the money (£250 in total) was to go to CLIC Sargent, Prestwick to support the children.

Andrew's next plan was to record his first CD at Robbie Dale's Mews Studio in Kilmarnock in November 2003.
The CD called 'Beginnings' contained 10 songs, 3 of which were composed by local artists. All of the proceeds of the sale of the C.D went directly to CLIC Sargent. 2000 copies were produced and sold.

In November 2003, whilst Andrew was singing to the residents at the CLIC Sargent house in Prestwick he met Suzi McGuire of Radio Clyde.
Suzi was so impressed with Andrew’s voice that she invited him to Radio Clyde and sing DJ Sammy's version of "Heaven" live to her listeners (see Gallery).
After his performance, the Radio Clyde phone lines were very busy with people wanting to find out more about Andrew and his CD.

In December 2003, he performed to a full house at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow at CLIC Sargent's Christmas Carol Concert.
During the 10 minute break Andrew sold 180 of his CD's.
